This premium 4-ply yarn is the finest grade of Welsh Mule, the name given to the local Welsh breed when crossed with Blue Faced Leicester. It is a lustrous, worsted spun yarn with a sheen and a nice halo. It’s soft, has good definition and is suitable for garments and accessories of all kinds. It also felts well and makes beautiful woven fabric.
Also available as a DK weight yarn.

Cambrian Wool have worked with local farmers to realise their conviction that fine wool can be had from Welsh flocks. Their wool is produced on farms throughout the Cambrian Mountain region in Mid-Wales; a beautiful and wild area which is perfect for raising sheep. Their premium wool is the finest grade of Welsh Mule, which is the name given to the local Welsh breed when it is crossed with Blue Faced Leicester. Scouring, spinning, dyeing and weaving all happen within 250 miles of their base in Cardigan.
Why We Love Them
This yarn has a real sense of place. The names of the different shades evoke the wild hills and rugged coastlines of Mid Wales and the beautifully soft yarn will add a touch of luxury to any project, whilst being tough enough to make hand knitted items that will last for years to come.
Project Inspiration
The Hafod Beanie and the Dotty Mitts are both designed by Sue James for Cambrian Wool 4-Ply. The beanie is a really clever way to showcase different colour combinations with this yarn, and the mitts are a great single-skein project that take less than 50g. Both patterns are suitable for beginner level knitters and both are designed to be knitted flat and seamed.
